Abstract

Marcussen, H. Fluorescent anti-colon antibodies and inflammatory eosinophilia in ulcerative colitis. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 575–577.

119 consecutive cases of ulcerative colitis were investigated for occurrence of colon related circulating antibodies by use of the indirect immunofluorescence method. Circulating antibodies were found in 19 per cent. By use of semiquantitative cytological estimation eosinophilia was detected in mucosal exudate in rectum in 45 per cent. A significant difference between cases with both circulating antibodies and eosinophilia and the total patient group was found. That this correlation reflects a subepithelial cytological reaction is discussed. A difference bet ween active and inactive cases regarding inflammatory eosinophilia but not circulating antibodies was found.
