Abstract
Boesby, S. & Pedersen, S. A. The effect of vasopressin on resting gastroesophageal sphincter pressure in man. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 587–590.
The effect of exogenous vasopressin on resting gastroesophageal sphincter pressure was investigated in 13 normal human subjects. Intravenous infusion for 30 minutes of vasopressin in a dose of 50 µ/kg per minute produced a significant increase in mean sphincter pressure. Mean fundic pressure remained unchanged. In the discussion mention is made of the gastrointestinal mechanisms which are of importance to the liberation of vasopressin from the neurohypophysis, and it is concluded that endogenous vasopressin is likely to be involved in both the physiological and the pathophysiological regulation of the sphincter pressure.
