The changing geography of ethnic minority settlement in Glasgow, 1951–2001

Abstract

Thirty years ago the Scottish Geographical Magazine published a seminal paper by Kearsley & Srivastava on the spatial evolution of Glasgow's Asian community. The study, although limited by lack of access to contemporary Census data on ethnicity, provided a benchmark for subsequent research into the ethnic geographies of the city. The present research builds on these foundations and employs data from successive national Censuses of Population to present a descriptive analysis of the changing geographies of ethnic minority settlement in Glasgow, over the half century from 1951 to 2001.
