Perspectives on the efficacy of psychotherapy

Abstract

The modest yield of almost half a century of research on the efficacy of psychotherapy summarized here raises questions about the effect of efficacy research. Issues related to the types of studies included in many current meta‐analyses, and the need for process‐oriented psychotherapy research are raised.
