Pages 65-81 | Published online: 22 Feb 2023

Summary

Three new genera and species of cave-adapted trechine beetles are established and described from limestone caves in southwestern China: Yunaphaenops graciliphallus n. gen., n. sp. (Fengwei Dong Cave, Qiubei County, Yunnan Province), a semi-aphaenopsian species with its taxonomic position remaining unclear within the tribe Trechini though allied to Sinaphaenops Uéno & Wang 1991 based on molecular analysis; Leshanius yunzhii n. gen., n. sp. (Xiaoxuankong Tiankeng Cave, Leshan Shi, Sichuan Province), an aphaenopsian species somewhat similar to the genus Boreaphaenops Uéno 2002 in morphology, but allied to Sichuanotrechus Deuve, 2005 in molecular phylogeny; and Panotrechus pilosus n. gen., n. sp. (Wojiao Dong Cave, Panzhou, Guizhou Province), a peculiar genus with several remarkable characters in morphology, but allied to Ckacus Tian & Huang, 2021 in molecular analysis. Jujiroa duqianae n. sp. is also reported from Xiaoxuankong Tiankeng, allied to J. deliciola Uéno & Kishimoto, 2001. A new locality for J. deliciola is recorded. Finally, an updated key to all Sichuanese species of Jujiroa is provided.

Acknowledgements

First of all, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Hao Jin (head of Sichuan Cave Exploration Team, Chengdu) for donating the invaluable specimen of the Jujiroa species and providing valuable advice and information about Xiaoxuankong Tiankeng. We also thank Yunzhi Zhang, Qian Du and Jiao Yang and Yuehai Yu (Sichuan Cave Exploration Team, Chengdu) for assistance during the cave surveys. The third author (JJ Zhou) would like to thank Tao Luo (Guizhou Normal University, Guiyang) for his assistance during their visits to Wojiao Dong together. Our appreciations go to Thierry Deuve (Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, Paris) and Borislav Guéorguiev (National Museum of Natural History, Sofia) for their critical remarks and constructive suggestions which were helpful to improve the manuscript.
