SYNOPSIS
Part 2 of the series of papers dealing with the regeneration ofPinus radiata in the Southern Cape discusses the effect of the experimental treatments on the distribution of nutrient elements, more particularly to estimate the impact of treatments on changes in the concentration of nutrients, above ground and in different soil strata. The study was furthermore carried out to detect nutrient deficiencies and to measure nutrient ratios in the foliage and finally to estimate nutrient budgets. Prior to the establishment of the experiments, no significant differences between the nutrient concentrations of litter and soil on plots allocated to treatments could be established and no differences amongst soil strata were detected. The observed variability therefore reflects the effect of the experimental treatments.
