Abstract

The visual perception mechanism of marine cephalopods such as octopus, with respect to “color blind camouflage” has not yet been revealed. The eyeball optics of these animals have longitudinal chromatic aberration, which result in blurred retinal image. Utilizing deconvolution image processing method to restore the chromatic blurred retinal images is proposed in order to obtain the ideal spectral images, which realizes spectral and spatial resolution. Simulation of a target for validating image restoration is implemented, and the results show that the method can effectively extract spectral images from the chromatic blur images. Although the vision of these animals is unlikely to have a cognitive function similar to image deconvolution, the proposed method may provide a technical approach for constructing novel bionic hyperspectral imaging systems.
