Abstract

Mercury is accumulated in the kidneys on prolonged exposure, especially exposure to mercuric compounds, and is eliminated slowly.1 It has been known2 since the 19th century that mercury is excreted in urine. Most of the early data were obtained from studies of patients exposed to Hg as a treatment for syphilis.
