Abstract
This is the first in a series of papers that examines a long-term research project involving interactive laser videodisc and hypermedia technologies as a means of enhancing curricular and pedagogical knowledge within the preservice classroom. Each videodisc (professionally produced under the guidance of the researcher) represents a visual case study of a K-12 art specialist, and is accompanied by a multimedia hypertext. This research involves two major components:(1) Collaborative research with a cadre of practitioners who help design the conceptual pedagogical framework and teaching episodes represented in the videodiscs and hypertexts; and (2) research on preservice teachers as they interact with the technologies during their course work. This paper reports research from the first component: the development and conceptual framework of a videodisc and hypermedia text, entitled Inside the Classroom: Exploring Art Education Pedagogy, which captures a middle school art specialist at work. The specialist was asked to teach her lesson with a preservice teacher audience in mind.
