Ashley Byock
Ashley Byock is Associate Professor of English at Edgewood College, where she teaches American and African American studies and directs the Digital Humanities Social Justice Initiative. Her work focuses on race, law, and biopolitics in the U.S. from the Revolutionary to Reconstruction periods. Recent articles have appeared in symplokē and The New Americanist along with a contribution to the Bloomsbury Handbook to Literary and Cultural Theory (Bloomsbury 2018). Two book projects are currently in process and under review: Founding Decorporations: Race and Embodied Personhood in Early U.S. Law and Culture (a monograph) and Biopolitical Personhood: How the Law Constructed Racial Difference in the Americas (a co-edited volume).
