Abstract

An efficient synthesis of diaryl ethers by the copper-catalyzed arylation of phenols with a variety of aryl iodide susing KF/Al2O3 as a suitable base and CuI and 1,3 diphenyl-1,3 propandione as the catalyst is described.

a Performed using 15 mol% of 1,3-diphenyl-1,3 propandione as ligand, 1.0 equiv. of aryl iodide, 3.0 equiv. of phenols, and 5 equiv. of KF/Al2O3 as base at 100–110 °C.
