Abstract

1,5-Benzodizepines are synthesized in excellent yields via condensation of o-phenylenediamine with ketones having a hydrogen at the α-position. The reaction is performed in solvent-free conditions and 5 mol% of RuCl3·xH2O is enough to direct the reaction to completion.
