In Volume 39, Number 1 (2009), pp. 61–69, of Synthetic Communications®, several errors were published in the article “Simple and Efficient Synthesis of Steroidal Hybrids of Estrogen and Vitamin D3,” by Atul Gupta, Rachid Gueddah, and Gervais Bérubé. They are listed below:
Scheme 1 shows ethyl 5-iodo- and 5-bromopentanoate instead of ethyl 4-iodo- and 4-bromobutanoate. The correct scheme is below:
The names for compounds 8, 9, 10, and 11c should read:
3-Tetrahydropyranyloxy-16β-(methoxycarbonyl)-16α-(3-ethoxycarbonylpropyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (8),
3-Hydroxy-16α,β-(3-carboxypropyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (9),
3-Hydroxy-16α,β-(3-methyloxycarbonylpropyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (10),
16β-(4-Hydroxy-4-ethylhexyl)-17α-ethyl-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-3,17β-diol (11c).
instead of
3-Tetrahydropyranyloxy-16β-(methoxycarbonyl)-16α-(4-ethoxycarbonylbutyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (8),
3-Hydroxy-16α,β-(4-carboxylbutyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (9),
3-Hydroxy-16α,β-(4-methyloxycarbonylbutyl)-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-one (10),
16β-(4-Hydroxy-4-ethylhexyl)-17α-methyl-1,3,5(10)-estratrien-3,17β-diol (11c).
