Synthesis of Mono-and Bifunctionalised Tetrathiafulvalene Derivatives using Tetrathiafulvalenyllithiums and the Appropriate p-Toluenesulfonyl Reagent

In the article “Synthesis of Mono- and Bifunctionalised Tetrathiafulvalene Derivatives Using Tetrathiafulvalenyllithiums and the Appropriate p-Toluenesulfonyl Reagent” by G. Cooke, which was published in Volume 26, Number 15, 2917–2923 (1996) of Synthetic Communications®, it was described that compound 4 could be synthesized as a by-product from the reaction of compound 2 with TsN˭C˭O. However, during reinvestigation of this work, this methodology has proved to be unreliable, and therefore, does not provide a viable synthetic route to compound 4.
