FeCl3 as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones

Abstract

The synthesis of (E)-3-substituted styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones was achieved by the reaction of 3-methylquinoxalinone and aromatic aldehydes using FeCl3 as a catalyst in toluene under microwave irradiation. The protocol is endowed with milder reaction conditions, high yields of product, and easy workup procedures.
