Abstract

The reflectance characteristics of substrate play an important role in its appearance under near infrared (NIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) receptor instruments. The reflectance behavior of the printed blend fabrics incorporated with citric acid as cross-linker and ceramic nano-powders such as zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) and magnesium oxide (MgO) were evaluated in order to tune their reflection values both in NIR and SWIR spectral ranges with the ones in jungle and desert backgrounds. To investigate the effect of nanoparticles concentrations and cross-linker on the reflectance properties, ZrO2 and MgO with and without citric acid were applied on fabrics using pad-dry-cure method. The reflectance of fabrics was measured by NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). A field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to determine the size of the particles and to confirm their presence in the fabrics. The washing fastness of the coated fabrics was also evaluated.
