3—THE MECHANICS OF STAPLE-FIBRE YARNS PART II: ANALYSIS AND RESULTS

Abstract

The governing equations of the staple-fibre-yarn model presented in Part I are formulated and solved by utilizing the finite-element method. Major features added to Hearle's work are the incorporation of changes in yarn configuration due to slippage, non-linear material behaviour, and a more realistic representation of the lateral contraction of the yarn. A number of specially spun yarns were used to evaluate the staple-fibre-yarn analysis.
