Marijke van der Veen is Professor of Archaeology at the University of Leicester. She studied history and archaeology at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands and gained a PhD from Sheffied University. She is author of Crop Husbandry Regimes (1992), editor of The Exploitation of Plant Resources in Ancient Africa (1999) and editor of Luxury Foods: World Archaeology 34(3) (2003). Her research focuses on ancient agriculture and the archaeology of food.
