In New Zealand, disease entities in sheep knownto respond to minute quantities of selenium are congenital and delayed white muscle disease of lambs (Drake et al., Citation1960a), selenium responsive unthriftiness in young sheep (Drake et al., Citation1960b) and aform of lowered fertility in ewes (Hartley et al., Citation1960). It is probable that paradontal disease (Salisbury et al., Citation1953), and possible that white muscle disease of hoggets (Hartley and Dodd, Citation1957) will also be included in this category (Hartley and Grant, Citation1961). In addition, growth responses to selenium have been obtained in unweaned lambs showing no signsof ill health (McLean et al., Citation1959).
