Toxoplasma infections in domesticated live-stock have been recorded in sheep, dogs and fowls in New Zealand. In sheep, abortion and neonatal mortality are commonly caused by this organism (Hartley et al., Citation1954). Toxoplasmosis was described in six dogs and, in these, lesions associated with Toxoplasma were seen in the lungs, heart, liver, pancreas, spleen, kidney, bladder and brain (Hartley, Citation1956). In the same paper, the author described lesions he had seen in fowls and a kiwi.
