This review has been written to show the importance of some of the more serious virus diseases of livestock which have caused, and still cause much wastage of animal production. The historical facts relating to geographical origin, spread in new areas, aetiology and epizootiology of the various diseases are outlined, together with an up-to-date account of their present distribution in the world today and major attempts aimed at their control or eradication.
