The paper by Gias et al. published in the New Zealand Veterinary Journal 64 (1), pages 60–64, 2016, entitled, “Application of quantitative PCR assays for diagnosing Ikeda and other Theileria orientalis types to examine associations between severity of anaemia and parasitaemia in bovine anaemia outbreaks”, was published with errors on pages 61 and 63.
In the Materials and Methods, in the third paragraph on page 61, the categories for the definition of parasitaemia were incorrect. The correct sentence should read:
“For data analysis, parasitaemia was categorised based on the number of theilerial piroplasms per 1,000 erythrocytes counted, as negative (0), low (1–9), moderate (10–100) or high (>100).”
In the Results section on page 63, Table 4 also includes incorrect categories for piroplasm count. The correct range for moderate counts should be 10–100.
