¹ I present a more detailed and nuanced reading of Rich’s long career in “The Language of Witness: Adrienne Rich,” a chapter in American Poetry after Modernism: The Power of the Word (2015). And the newly revised Norton Critical Edition, Adrienne Rich: Poetry and Prose, co-edited with Barbara Charlesworth Gelpi and Brett Millier and scheduled for publication in fall 2017, offers, in the section of selected reviews and essays, a spectrum of critical commentary on the broad scope of Rich’s work.
