Professor George Gordon Gibson (1949–2008)

Page 557 | Published online: 21 Jul 2009

It is now more than a year since the untimely death of Professor George Gordon Gibson (PhD, DSc, FRCPath, FBTS), a valued, respected and loved colleague, collaborator and friend, and previous Editor-in-Chief of Xenobiotica. The current issue of Xenobiotica is dedicated to his memory, and comprises reviews written by close collaborators, friends and ex-PhD students. The age range of the contributors testifies to Gordon’s innate ability to inspire everybody who was privileged to have known and have worked with him, at the University of Surrey where he spent most of his working career, ISSX and the numerous committees that he so diligently and unselfishly served.

In these difficult times for Higher Education, Gordon’s exuberance and sanguine approach to life, his vision and, above all, his infectious enthusiasm and unflagging joie de vivre are sorely missed by all of us.
