Abstract
We demonstrated the effect of bilateral anterior transpositions of the inferior obliques for dissociated vertical deviation in congenital esotropia. We reviewed a total of 34 patients (68 eyes) who had undergone bilateral anterior transpositions of the inferior obliques with initial horizontal surgery for congenital esotropia and followed-up for at least six months (Mean: 22.82 months). The incidence of dissociated vertical deviation was reduced by more than 50%. Inferior oblique overaction was also improved. Minimal complications were observed including inferior oblique underaction, residual overaction and recurrence of inferior oblique overaction. Dissociated vertical deviation was better or cured in 75% of cases. The overall incidence of dissociated vertical deviation in this series was down to 26.5%.
