In her discussion of the significance of children’s use of space in the therapy office, Loewald (1987) proposed that “the child has a great capacity and urge to use the therapeutic space” (p. 191). Loewald argued that children’s increasingly expansive use of space represents growth and mastery, which can help them break through impediments in a variety of developmental areas.
