Codonoprasum Reichenb.

The maltese plant previously referred to Allium parciflorum Viv. is described as new species: Allium lojaconoi. The two plants show numerous differential characters regarding to the phenotype, the caryotype and the leaf anatomy, which allow to separate them at specific rank. As regards to the taxonomical position of the two species within the genus Allium, A. parciflorum (endemic of Sardinia and Corsica) must be referred to the sect. Brevispatha Valsecchi em. Garbari et al., whilst A. lojaconoi (endemic of maltese islands) can be referred, at least provisionally, to the sect. Codonoprasum Reichenb.
