Treating Sprains and Strains

In brief

Foot sprains and strains are as varied as the sports that produce them, and these injuries affect athletes at all competitive levels— even the weekend warrior. An understanding of how the foot's structures respond to trauma and of how to best elicit information through the physical exam can help a physician pinpoint the injury And determining injury severity can help focus the level of treatment needed for a sure-footed return to activity.

William O. Irvine

Dr Irvine is a partner of Orthopaedics Indianapolis, Inc where he specializes in foot and ankle surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
