Abstract

A novel AMPS-based hydrogel was synthesized, characterized, and its swelling and drug-release behaviour with brufen as model drug were studied in vitro. The results indicated that the swelling of the hydrogel is pH sensitive and follows the non-Fickian diffusion process. Swelling behaviour of brufen loaded and unloaded hydrogel was similar. The results of in-vitro drug release experiments showed that the hydrogel has sustained release properties and the release rate depends on the equilibrium swelling ratio of the hydrogels, pH of the release medium, and the solubility of the drug. It is believed that this hydrogel could be potentially used for localized drug delivery.
