Abstract
Chitosan-magnesium oxide–based nanocomposite film containing clove essential oil was prepared by solution cast method. The composition qualities of the synthesized materials were determined using FTIR. From the XRD studies, crystalline particle size of MgO was found to be 25 nm. Thermal degradation and morphology of the materials were determined through TGA and SEM, respectively. In this study we investigated that chitosan-metal oxide containing essential oil were found to have increased mechanical property, film thickness, film opacity, and decreased swelling, barrier and solubility properties due to incorporation of nano magnesium oxide and clove essential oil into the chitosan matrix. Further antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method was followed against Staphylococcus aureus which also found to have higher inhibition effect for clove oil and nanoparticle incorporated chitosan film.
