Advancement in wound healing treatment using functional nanocarriers

Abstract

In recent years, due to extraordinary advances in molecular biology, the emergence of new biomolecular targets offers a better understanding of the etiology of acute and chronic wounds resulting in more innovative therapies. The nanomaterial-based approach with numerous advantages over conventional approaches shows the range of applications for wound care owing to its multi-functionality. The current study focuses on the novel nano-structural formulations for the healing of infectious wounds for prevention based on nanomaterials, such as nano-biomaterials, nanoparticles, hydrogels, and scaffolds. This review discusses the ligand internalization (polymeric, aptameric, protein, and antibody molecules) and surface function enhancers that determine the fate of nanocarrier functionalization.
