Recent composition and applications of liposomes in cancer therapy

Abstract

Nanoparticles are major focus of research nowadays. Liposomes are one of the nano-drug delivery system which is focus of research, especially for carrying chemotherapeutic agent for treatment of different cancers of body. Most common method of liposome preparation is thin film hydration method. For cancer therapy, liposome is being used for passive targeting due to leaky vessels of tumors which promotes enhanced and permeability effect and active targeting. Liposome is modified by slight alteration in their composition including long-circulating liposome, fusogenic liposome, immuno-liposome and stimuli-triggering liposome. This review extensively elaborates recent compositions and various applications of liposomes in cancer therapy.
