Abstract
Cadmium(II) chloride complexes of the N-alkylphenothiazine ligands, 1a-e, have been prepared in MeOH/water medium. The compounds were characterized based on their elemental analyses, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, and spectroscopic data. The molecular formulas of the new complexes were found to be: [Cd(CP.HCl)5(H2O)]Cl2, 3, and [Cd2Cl(CP.HCl)7]Cl3.MeOH, 4, where CP = chlorpromazine; [CdCl(L.HCl)2]Cl where L = promethazine (PM), 5, or thioridazine (TR), 6; [Cd(EP.HCl)2]Cl2, 7, where EP = ethopropazine; and [CdCl(TF.2HCl)2]Cl, 8, where TF = trifluoperazine. All compounds are diamagnetic and ionic in nature. Tentative structures for the complexes have been proposed.
