Synthesis and Investigation of Biologically Active Complexes of N-Alkylphenothiazines with Yttrium(III)

Abstract

New complexes of yttrium(III) with six N - alkylpheilothiazines having the formula [Y(L)2 (NO3)2]NO3, (L = N-alklylphenotbiazines) have been prepared and characterized by analytical, conductance, IR. UV-visible and NMR spectral studies Conductance studies indicate the 1.1 etectrolytic behavior of the nitrate complexes. The IR spectra of the complexes show that all N-alkytphenothiazines act as bidentate ligands, the heterocyclic nitrogen and the tertiary nitrogen atom of the side chain being the sites of coordination Only two of the nitrate group are coordinated bidentately to the central metal ion, while the third remains uncoordinated. The fungitoxicity of the complexes against several fungi has been assayed.
