Facilitating Teachers' Use of Natural Areas: Perceptions of Environmental Education Opportunities

Pages 8-16 | Published online: 15 Jul 2010

Abstract

Classroom teachers' perceptions of nature and the importance of providing environmental education often determine whether students are given the chance to experience natural areas. In personal interviews conducted with 39 urban teachers, the factors relating to teachers' preferences for types of environmental education settings were examined. Results suggest that teachers perceive distinct differences in nature settings and that these settings communicate clear educational opportunities and resource needs.
