Abstract
The chelating characteristics of 1-(aminoformyl-N-phenylform)-4-ethylthiosemicarbazide (H3APET) towards Cr3+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Zn2+ and ions have been investigated. The structures of the isolated complexes were assigned based on elemental and thermal analyses, spectra [IR, UV-visible, 1H NMR, ESR (for Cu(II)) and mass] as well as magnetic measurements. The IR data reveal different coordination modes for H3APET. Based on magnetic and spectroscopic studies Zn2+, Fe3+, Cd2+, Ni2+,
and Mn2+ complexes are octahedral, Co2+ and Cr3+ complexes are tetrahedral, while the Cu2+ complex is square-planar. Thermal stability and degradation kinetics of the complexes were studied by TGA and DTA and the kinetic parameters were evaluated.
