Synthesis and characterization of aryltriphenylsilyl ethers and crystal structure of 2,4,6-tri-methylphenyl triphenylsilyl ether

Abstract

Synthesis and structures of aryl triphenylsilyl ether derivatives are reported. Reactions of chlorotriphenylsilane, (C₆H₅)₃SiCl (1), with sodium salts of sterically hindered phenol derivatives (2a–2i) were investigated. Aryltriphenylsilyl ethers (C₆H₅)₃SiOAr (3–8) were obtained from these reactions. Structures of 3–8 were defined by IR, ¹H, ¹³C, ²⁹Si NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and ESI-MS spectra. The molecular structure of 2,4,6-tri-methylphenyl triphenylsilyl ether (6) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
