Synthesis and characterization of aryltriphenylsilyl ethers and crystal structure of 2,4,6-tri-methylphenyl triphenylsilyl ether

Abstract

Synthesis and structures of aryl triphenylsilyl ether derivatives are reported. Reactions of chlorotriphenylsilane, (C6H5)3SiCl (1), with sodium salts of sterically hindered phenol derivatives (2a2i) were investigated. Aryltriphenylsilyl ethers (C6H5)3SiOAr (3–8) were obtained from these reactions. Structures of 3–8 were defined by IR, 1H, 13C, 29Si NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and ESI-MS spectra. The molecular structure of 2,4,6-tri-methylphenyl triphenylsilyl ether (6) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
