Abstract
COOH-modified zeolite Y was prepared via hydrothermal method and used as a core to induce the growth of MIL-53(Al) metal–organic framework (MOF) on its surface at room temperature. The Y@MIL-53 core@shell was applied to adsorption of Eriochrome Black-T (EBT) anionic dye. The materials were characterized using a range of techniques. The attached carboxylic linkers in zeolite Y were confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. TEM image of the Y@MIL-53 consisted of two regions, a dark region related to zeolite Y and a light part with an average diameter of 60 nm that related to the MIL-53 shell. The zeta potential indicated the zero point charge (pHPZC) of the core@shell was 4.6. The Y@MIL-53 core@shell showed highest adsorption percent. The possible mechanism of adsorption was proposed. The used adsorbent can be reused for adsorptive removal through simply washing.
