On page 1563 (paragraph 1, Line 5), under section “The Tapered Bubble Column Scrubber Model”, the text should read as:

“The flow behavior in the tapered bubble column scrubber is suggested to consist of two distinct regions such as the central region and the annular region (Figure - 1). Such a flow behavior for a tapered gas agitated reactor was incorrectly divided into three regions by Kleijntjens et al. (Citation1994). Their speculative formulation with this modification is described under the current situation for improved understanding. The central region contains most of the rising bubbles, causing an upward bulk motion while, the downward bulk flow takes place in the annular region and is equal to the up flow. The bubble generation and regeneration takes place during up flow while, breakup-cum-coalescence takes place during down flow (Lamont, 1958). The irregular and non-uniform flow behavior in a conventional bubble column with uniform cross-section (Canada et al., 1978; Chen et al., 1989) differs principally from that in a tapered bubble column with the presence of an annular shear layer throughout the dispersion surrounding the central region resulting in intense mixing between the gas and the liquid phases that induces high turbulence. The induced turbulence in the shear layer is propagated to the entire dispersion (Hinze, 1958). The power is extracted from the bulk motion during this process.”

Figure is corrected as follows:

Fig. 1 The flow behavior in the tapered bubble column scrubber with circular cross-section for gas (air diluted SO2)-liquid (water/dilute NaOH) two phase mixture.
