Thermodynamic Evaluation of Chemical Interrelationships in Incandescent Lamps

Abstract

Many studies of individual chemical reactions have been reported. However, the capability of quantitatively delineating the interrelationships among the many possible chemical reactions, and deriving the resulting equilibrium composition of the system, has not been presented. This investigation determines the theoretical effects of fill gas impurities and phosphorus additives on the volatization of incandescent lamp filaments and thereby assesses the significant chemical mechanisms affecting life.
