Two errors appear in the published version of the article, on pages 322 and 330. The errors are as follows:
On page 322, the sentence ‘Although it had not signed the 1925 Geneva Protocol, which banned first use of chemical and biological weapons, American policymakers did not base the legality of American use of anti-plant and irritant agents in Vietnam on its non-signatory status’
should read, ‘Although it had signed but not ratified the 1925 Geneva Protocol, which banned first use of chemical and biological weapons, American policymakers did not base the legality of American use of anti-plant and irritant agents in Vietnam on its non-ratification’
On page 330, footnote 30, the sentence ‘Note also that in February 1962 Dr Herbert York ….
should read ‘Note also that in February 1960 Dr Herbert York ….’
The author apologises for these errors.
