This issue’s editorial has been written by the publishers, T&F Informa, to update readers on developments taking place within the company and the Journal.

In 2004, the Taylor & Francis group merged with Informa Ltd. to form T&F Informa. This led to a reorganization of many of the publishing units within both companies and as a result, a new imprint has been created, ‘Informa Healthcare’, which encompasses all our publishing activity within the Life Sciences, Medicine and Healthcare. A comprehensive rebranding exercise will take place throughout 2006 and from July, the imprint Informa Healthcare will appear on the Journal cover and all marketing material. As well as hosting over 200 journals, including Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine, Informa Healthcare publishes over 250 new books each year, has a books backlist in excess of 3,000 specialist titles, and produces novel electronic products, including the Map of Medicine, a clinical, point of care tool, and Pharmaprojects, the World’s leading source of global scientific and business intelligence on drugs in research and development.

All members of the Institute of Medical Illustrators receive a print copy of the Journal as part of their membership fee. In addition, all members can now access the Journal’s online content via the password protected members’ area of the Institute’s website, http://www.imi.org.uk/members/login.asp?tRedirect=/members/members.asp. The online version of the Journal has many benefits. The Journal has a limited colour budget and therefore not all images submitted in colour can be reproduced as such. Any figure however can be published in colour in the online version at no additional cost. Other benefits include web addresses which are hyperlinked, enabling the reader to click straight through to the relevant page, and the availability of supplementary material such as animations and film clips.

The most effective way of disseminating the information contained within the Journal is through institutional libraries. All institutional subscriptions include unlimited online access to the Journal to any number of concurrent users across a local area network. Full pricing details can be found on the Journal homepage (http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/17453054.asp). If your institution does not currently subscribe to the journal, can I encourage you to pass these subscription details on to your librarian?
