ABSTRACT
Some dialkyl derivatives of bicyclohexyl, tercyclohexane and cyclohexyl decahydronaphthalene with a carbonitrile group positioned axially in the most stable conformation exhibit enantiotropic nematic and smectic phases. These compounds are valuable for displays based on nematics with a negative dielectric anisotropy. A depression of the nematic/isotropic transition temperature of microscopic circular areas can be observed.
