Abstract
Investigating the symmetry properties of compensated chiral liquid crystals we point out that the macroscopic description suggested recently by Pleiner and Brand1 can not be applied for these materials. We also discuss the hysteresis of the homeotropic to fingerprint texture transition in compensated cholesterics and its consequence on the measurement of the temperature dependence of the pitch.
