Abstract
We have measured the far infrared (FIR) absorption of some alkyl-cyano-biphenyl compounds (CB5, CB7, CBa) and a cyclohexane derivative (PCH7) in their liquid and nematic phases; the measures were performed with an optically pumped FIR waveguide laser for the methyl alcool 118,8 μm wavelengh. The use of this new type source enables measures in FIR on good oriented sample (with a magnetic field). From our experimental results we deduced order parameters as a function of temperature.
