Abstract

Cooperative grain boundary sliding (CGBS) (sliding of grain groups along surfaces formed by sliding grain boundaries), has been considered as a result of rigid shear of grain rows or as sequential shear of grains. The sequential shear of grains has been analysed in terms of movement of cellular dislocations (imperfections in regular grain structure). Localized and extended cellular dislocations are examined. Coupling of CGBS and cooperative grain boundary migration might take place as the result of movement of grain boundary dislocations associated with ledges.
