On the interpretation of the first, sharp maximum in the X-ray scattering pattern of non-crystalline solids and liquids

Abstract

A discussion of the origin of a strong, first peak in the scattering intensity of some non-crystalline solids is presented. Numerical and analytical calculations show that this peak is likely to arise from contributions of many Fourier components of the pair correlation function from a rather broad interval in real space.
