ABSTRACT

It was aimed to develop a small-scale anaerobic digestion system which would work in tropical as well as temperate conditions by adopting various techniques. In situ temperature of the biogas system is the critical factor in the production high energy methane. In order to increase the temperature of the system Physical parameters such as selection of materials, size of the reactor, type of the dome, and biomass mixing techniques was concentrated in the study and biological parameter like the introduction of phototrophic and heterotrophic bacterial cultures has been attempted at bench scale. For the experiments, 100 mL serum bottles to 500 L bioreactor were designed and tested at tropical and subtropical conditions. Based on the results obtained from these studies a potential and economical reactor designs and microbial consortium have been selected for scale-up designs were installed and tested at low temperature areas.
