Abstract
Graphene oxide nanoparticles (GO-NPs) and Ca(OH)2 pre-treated slurry mixed with wheat straw has been used to enhance the biogas and methane production in anaerobic digestion. The impact of the NPs and other additives (i.e. Ca(OH)2, urea and cow urine) on methane and biogas production was experimentally analysed using an anaerobic batch system. The optimum composition of GO-NPs and other additives were selected by referring previous studies The average methane concentration of 65% in 40 days of hydraulic retention time (HRT) has been observed using the GO-NPs. The cumulative methane yield (p < .05) with samples S1, S2, and S3 have been recorded as 33,154.47, 22,822.98 and 27,440.51 ml, respectively. However, the cumulative methane yields in all the samples S1, S2 and S3 have been enhanced by volume 2.54, 1.74, 2.1 times compared to the control through 40 days of HRT.
