Abstract
This research utilises chicken wastes from the poultry industry to produce biodiesel. The same was mixed with diesel in various proportions to find its performance and emission characteristics. In addition to that, Copper doped ZSM5 (Cu-ZSM5) zeolite was coated in a 400 cells per square inch cordierite monolith. The Cu-ZSM5 and commercially available catalyst were tested in the biodiesel blended constant speed 5.2 kW diesel engine. For engine run with 40% Chicken skin biodiesel blend, the recorded values of Hydrocarbon (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Oxides (NOX), and Smoke in Cu-ZSM5 catalyst are 9.7%, 5.3%, 11.25%, and 34.91% lower than the commercially available catalyst at 4.3 kW load. Cu-ZSM5 catalyst was a better choice as a NOX reducing catalyst than a commercially available catalyst.
